Glorya Kaufman celebrates The Music Center’s 50th Anniversary with the many forward-thinking community members from all over from all over Los Angeles who came together with one mission – to achieve Dorothy Buffum Chandler’s vision of a performing arts center that would yield an unprecedented democratization of the arts. It was mambo-mania Saturday night at the elegant Dorothy Chandler Pavilion when Los Angeles dance “angel,” Glorya Kaufman, posed with pleasure with George Chakiris, the Academy Award-winning star of “West Side Story.”

Three-story building will be home to innovative studios and dance space.

L.A. might be known as a movie town, but if philanthropist Glorya Kaufman has a say, it could also be America’s next great city for dance.

The Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center celebrated its 10th anniversary season. The event was commemorated with a dinner and performance in honor of its namesake, Glorya Kaufman. The dinner was an intimate affair, followed by a beautiful performance of American Ballet Theatre’s Le Corsaire dedicated to Mrs. Kaufman. The tenth anniversary season of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center promises to seat you at the flashpoint of dance’s explosive power. All the vibrant storytelling, sinuous movement and sensual pleasure of this living art form are here for all to enjoy.

The Cedars-Sinai/USC Glorya Kaufman Dance Medicine Center is dedicated to educating professional, student and amateur dancers on how to prevent and minimize dance-related injuries. An innovative partnership between Cedars-Sinai and the University of Southern California’s Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, the center is led by Glenn Pfeffer, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and Director of the Foot and Ankle Program at the Cedars-Sinai Orthopedic Center and Margo Apostolos, PhD, Associate Professor of Dance at the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance…

The Center offers specialized therapies for injured dancers at the Cedars-Sinai Orthopedic Center. The goal of treatment is to rapidly return patients to their prior level of activity with no permanent limitation. The center emphasizes an educational approach, with physicians taking the time to fully explain to each patient the steps he or she must take to make a full recovery and avoid future injury along with taking full advantage of Cedars-Sinai’s diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative resources.

Ms. Kaufman received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Arts and delivered a commencement speech that incited four standing ovations before an audience of more than 3,000 people.

Glorya Kaufman is widely considered one of the world’s leading champions of dance. For several decades, she has focused her energy on philanthropic ventures, forming a foundation to support dance as well as fine arts, theater, education, medicine and other interests. In 2012, she committed one of the largest gifts in the history of American dance to create the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.
