When Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s artistic director Judith Jamison said “the Dance Community needs an angel”, Glorya Kaufman heard the call and stepped in, and a donation through perpetuity was made.
Collaborating with the Ailey Staff, an Ailey camp has been established in Los Angeles in 2009 to help transform the lives of inner-city youth.
2010 unveiled the teaching of Arts in Education programs in seven public schools. The Ailey teachers come to Los Angeles and teach the children in their schools along with theirs teachers to make sure that the Arts programs continue through the year.
Glorya Kaufman’s gift also provides opportunities to enjoy new choreographies and performances every other year at the Music Center in Los Angeles.
Four scholarships have also been provided to talented deserving students that must have financial assistance to acquire Ailey’s BFA Program at Fordham University in New York City. All of the above has reflected the personal commitment to training the artists of tomorrow.
In 2016 Glorya was honored by Alvin Ailey Dance Company at the New York City Center Auditorium.
