  • Honored with the “Shining Spirit Award” at Share Inc.’s 64th Annual Boomtown Gala. Share Inc. is an organization started by a group of 7 women who wanted to improve the lives of children with special needs. Now earring more than $48 Million, Share Inc. is now a powerful group of 80 women committed to raising the money to continue this noble cause.

  • Ms. Kaufman received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of Arts and delivered a commencement speech that incited four standing ovations before an audience of more than 3,000 people.

  • Ms. Kaufman donated proceeds of her Paris apartment to the USC Eye Clinic to perform surgeries on children from infancy to 22 years of age in order to correct the alignment of their eyes. The surgery corrects the condition called strabismus that often affects children from birth.

  • Glorya was honored at New York City Center by Alvin Ailey American Dance Foundation for her extensive help with Ailey Camp — a program through which Ailey retirees teach inner-city children dance in cities across the US, including Los Angles. In addition, Ms. Kaufman was acknowledged for providing four scholarships per year in perpetuity for The Ailey School/Fordham University Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance. She also has also provided funds for new choreographic work, and many other opportunities for New York Ailey dancers’ outreach programs.

  • Glorya received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Southern California for founding the Glorya Kaufman School of Dance and funding the exciting new 54,000-square-foot dance building called the Glorya Kaufman International Dance Center. In just three short years since the school opened its doors to dance, it has become widely known as the most innovate dance school in the world.

  • 2012 marked the tenth anniversary of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at the Music Center — a program through which Glorya has brought dance to Los Angeles. Dance was not typically presented at the Music Center before Glorya stepped in and established the dance series that continues to delight all of Los Angeles. The new Music Center CEO, Rachel Moore, is making sure that the dance programs are diversified and special.

  •  Glorya Kaufman received an Honorary Doctorate Degree of Letters and Sciences from Fordham University for donating, in perpetuity, four scholarships a year for dancers in the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program.

  • Ms. Kaufman produced Dancing with the Rabbis, a fun show in the Whizin Center for Continuing Education at American Jewish University that included five rabbis who were taught dances with professional dancers. One of the rabbis won the prize for dancing the tango, and her award money was given to a charity of her choice. After the show, the audience was fed and danced to live music. Everyone had a lot of fun and danced until the theater closed!

  • The newly formed Dizzy Feet Foundation, which gives scholarships to young dancers from throughout the United States, presented Glorya Kaufman with the first-ever “IMPACT” award at the Kodak Center Theater. Dancing with the Stars’ Carrie Ann Inaba introduced Ms. Kaufman as “a dance force in Los Angeles.”

  • Glorya received an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from The Juilliard School in New York. Glorya’s gift to The Juilliard School created the beautiful new Glorya Kaufman Dance Studio as part of the school’s renovation in 2009. The 2,300-square-foot studio overlooks the lights on Broadway, and can also be used as an event space for dinner parties.

  • Glorya was honored along with Dr. Leonard Apt at the Beverly Hills hotel for starting a pre-school mobile unit. The first examination for the pre-school children was at the Donald Bruce Kaufman Brentwood Library where 70 children were seen. It went on to be very successful; after a grant of $4 million, over 90,000 children have been seen in the last five years.

Ms. Kaufman was honored with a hardhat by The Juilliard School for pledging to fund the construction of a brand new dance studio that overlooks Broadway in New York. The glass-walled studio enables passers-by to see the dancers dance from the street.

  • For the huge renovation of the Geffen Playhouse, Mrs. Kaufman donated the funds for a beautiful new patio. This patio is rightfully named the Glorya Kaufman Patio.

  • Ms. Kaufman received the Heart award for the donation of a walkway star medallion to Jewish Home for the Aging in Encino, California; the medallion was imprinted with the names of Ms. Kaufman’s ten grandchildren.

  • Glorya received a Gold Medal, the highest honor given by UCLA. This was given to her for the renovation of the old Women’s Gym into Glorya Kaufman Hall, a state-of-the-art dance building with six rehearsal studios and a black box theater. The building, four years in the making, opened its doors in 2004.

  • At a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Ms. Kaufman received the Community Leadership Award for providing college scholarships for underprivileged children through the Fulfillment Fund. The organization trains mentors that help children to further their education; 95% of the youth served by this organization go on to attend college.

  • Glorya Kaufman received Appreciation of Generous Support for providing funds to build the Los Angeles Fire Station #19. Ms. Kaufman, a then resident of Brentwood, was inspired by the caring, selfless firefighters who risked their lives daily. So when the fire department had a fundraiser, she helped them to build Station #19.

  • The American Jewish University gave Ms. Glorya Kaufman the Chairman’s Associates Award for beginning a scholarship fund for single mothers. Glorya saw the need to help single mothers get an eduction so that they could make a living and support their children.
